SQL Server Tips by Gama and Naughter Consulting

Testing the Code (XP Support)

To test the XP support, a simple SQL Script called “ServerReachable.sql” is located in a “TSQL” directory underneath the XP code directory. We first must register the XP as per normal. This can be achieved using:

EXEC sp_addextendedproc 'XP_SERVERREACHABLE', "XP_SERVERREACHABLE.dll"

When we have registered the XP, we can then test out the XP using the following TSQL:

DECLARE @ServerToPing varchar(128)
select @ServerToPing = 'SOME_ADDRESS_TO_PING'
DECLARE @Reachable int
EXECUTE master..XP_SERVERREACHABLE @ServerToPing, @Reachable OUT
PRINT @Reachable

Try changing the value of “@ServerToPing” and observing the value of “@Reachable”.
