SQL Server Tips by Gama and Naughter

The XP returns all the sections found in an ini file. It takes a single parameter, which is the name of the ini file to get the sections for. The underlying SDK function it calls is “GetPrivateProfileSectionNames” and like XP_INI_READSTRING must handle reading variable length data. The section names are returned in a MULTI_SZ format, i.e. one or more null-terminated strings. This information is then parsed in a helper function called “CIniGetSectionsExtendedStoredProcedure::ReturnRecordSet” which returns this information to the caller as a recordset using the functions: “CExtendedStoredProcedure::Describe”, “CExtendedStoredProcedure::SetColumnLength”, “CExtendedStoredProcedure::SetColumnData”, “CExtendedStoredProcedure::SendRow” and “CExtendedStoredProcedure::SendDone”. The single column returned in this recordset is called “Section” and upon return each row will contain the name of a found section.
